KWAZULU-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mxolisi Kaunda recently announced Xmoor Transport as the company that will build the 3.3km stretch of the P6-3 at Msinga.
The long-awaited road will link Greytown, Tugela Ferry and Dundee and will enable easy access for consumer and business traffic between these three towns. The project is valued at R126.1 million over a period of 18 months.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Kaunda said government had committed to ensuring that 35% of the total value remains with the local businesses, To this end, more than 30 local companies will benefit from the road.
Of the total value of the budget, fourteen companies will come from grade 1 and will share R2.8 million, six from grade 2 will share R3.9 million, seven from grade 3 will share R7 million and three from grade 4 will share R12 million.
A total of 308 jobs will be created for locals and 20 young people will receive training through technical skills transfer. A further 20% of the programs will benefit the youth, 30% is set for women, 5% for the disabled and 10% will go to the military veterans.
Kaunda applauded the community of Msinga for their patience and said that even though it was the election period, this did not prevent government from bringing service delivery to the people. He said the road was scheduled to be completed in the 2019/2020 financial year.
