HAVING joined Konecranes and Demag in early September as Managing Director, Emil Berning (pictured) has his work cut out for him with Konecranes and Demag soon to become one legal entity, known as Konecranes and Demag (Pty) Ltd, but trading as Konecranes.

Berning’s background is in hydraulics, automation, heavy engineering, energy and power management, so he believes he is well equipped to head the South African branch of the global crane giant.

“It is an exciting time to be part of two leading crane companies on the African continent joining forces, combining Konecranes’ strength in service and Demag’s local engineering capacity in securing new business,” said Berning, who grew up in Port Elizabeth.

Merger, transformation top agenda for new crane company boss

Currently he is involved in finalising the BEE Ownership and Transformation Plan.

A father of two, Berning is a keen open water extreme swimmer, having completed a few round-Robben Island swims as well as the England Channel open water swim last year.

The EC Konecranes and Demag branch is situated in Greenbushes.
