Imperial Logistics has secured a long-term contract to distribute Nulaid eggs.
Imperial Logistics’ Chief Strategy Officer Cobus Rossouw said the group’s initial three-year contract with Quantum Foods had been extended for five years, based on its “continued success in delivering efficiency enhancements and cost savings while distributing 12 million eggs annually”.
The scope of the contract encompasses all outbound distribution to Nulaid customers. Inbound distribution is also undertaken in Gauteng, where the organisation transports eggs from laying farms to packing stations. In addition, said Rossouw, Imperial Logistics delivers primary inbound loads from Gauteng to Durban and Komatiepoort.
He said the group had dedicated operations staff is based at four Nulaid sites: Lanseria, Krugersdorp, Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth.
To optimise its solution to Nulaid, the supply chain and logistics group has invested in purpose-built “egg spec” vehicles, with insulated bodies, vents and fans. The trucks also feature drop safes in the cabs for cash handling.
He said the group would also leverage the capabilities of its services and technology solutions business, Resolve Solution Partners to add value to the partnership.
“An important contributor to Nulaid’s distribution success is our partnership with Resolve on this contract. Technology solutions delivered by Resolve have ensured optimal distribution planning, with the analytics and reports driving continuous improvements like enhanced vehicle utilisation and a fleet reduction initiative. These have yielded cost savings and enhanced efficiency and customer service.”
Rossouw said that in addition to Imperial Logistics’ experience in handling Nulaid’s fragile cargo, the organisation’s excellent relationship with its client was founded on a shared commitment to quality, efficiency and continuous improvement.
“We meet formally every month without fail for KPI review meetings. We are dedicated to tailoring our solution to meet our client’s needs, whether this means reducing the fleet or moving it around in line with volume forecasts. Imperial Logistics has proved to Nulaid that we are egg experts,” Rossouw said.
“We look forward to our partnership continuing to go from strength to strength. When additional packing stations are added to the scope of our contract, which is an expansion that is on the horizon, we will be able draw on the experience and expertise gained to continue driving Nulaid’s competitiveness.”
