AS South Africa undergoes a massive shift toward constructing ‘greener’ buildings, a KwaZulu-Natal north coast company is riding the wave of change, supplying a range of windows and doors it claims is both affordable and environmentally friendly.
“Prominance Africa manufacture and install the most energy efficient unplasticised polyvinyl chloride (uPVC) windows and doors in South Africa,” the company said in a statement.
“Our products have been accredited by the world’s leading uPVC testing institutions and we are the only company in South Africa to surpass 13 000 hours of artificial weathering testing, proving our unparalleled quality.”
It added that uPVC windows were one of the key ways of achieving better energy efficiency in buildings and achieving compliance with SANS 204, but conceded that the product, also known as rigid PVC had struggled to gain strong market adoption over the past 10 years.
It put this down to several factors including, “Misconceptions around the product being plastic and inferior to metal, quality uPVC being more expensive than most aluminium products and inadequate supply and support for the product.”
The company said it planned to turn those perceptions around with its vision to “make energy efficient fenestration affordable and accessible in South Africa”.
Ballito-based Prominance is one of the largest manufacturers and installers of uPVC windows and doors with single, double and triple glazing options. The company is 100% black owned with a Level 1 BBBEE score.
