IN what promises to be a major boost for the KwaZulu-Natal economy, leading India-based automaker, Mahindra, will soon start assembling a range of vehicles in South Africa, with the Dube TradePort tipped as the location for the new plant.
A report by CARmag.co.za published today (3 May 2018) quotes Rajesh Gupta, the recently appointed CEO of Mahindra South Africa, as saying the company would soon announce details of a local assembly facility for “certain Mahindra vehicles”, starting with its popular Pik Up light commercial vehicle.
“The facility, which CARmag.co.za understands will be officially opened at the Dube TradePort Special Economic Zone some 30 km north of Durban towards the end of May 2018, would serve both South Africa and certain export markets,” the report said.
