THE cutting of the ribbon recently by the KwaZulu-Natal, MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Mr Sihle Zikalala officially marked the opening of Medway Road in Richards Bay.
The road expansion has been described by captains of industry as a major boost for further development in the City of Umhlathuze and King Cetshwayo District as a whole.
Medway Road is the side road joining from John Ross Parkway connecting RBIDZ Phase 1A to the entrance of Transnet’s eastern gate which poses the uniqueness of being the deep-water port.
The unveiling of a multi-million-rand road project will facilitate improved access to businesses in the RBIDZ and further create an enabling environment for conducting business in Richards Bay as a whole.
The readiness of the infrastructure strengthens the status of South Africa’s transport and logistics hubs, whereas the importance of Medway Road lies in the fact that KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government has a vision of ensuring that this province becomes a Gateway to Africa and the World.
This development is exemplary of the commitment by the RBIDZ to provide reliable infrastructure for the attraction of domestic and foreign investors who will beneficiate South Africa’s raw materials and create production capacity.
The Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone acknowledges the role of transport in driving socio-economic development. It is for this reason that RBIDZ deemed it fit to invest in transport infrastructure in order to facilitate domestic and international trade.
The R53-million investment in Medway Road will ensure an efficient transport system that does not only facilitate the movement of goods and services but will increase production and reduce the cost of doing business in the Zone.
The various developments within the Zone prime the RBIDZ as the destination for foreign direct investments with various incentives offered to investors.
