THE Coega Development Corporation (CDC), acting as an implementing agent on behalf of the National Department of Health, is rolling out 11 clinics valued at a total of R457 million.
Eight clinics valued at R257 million are in the Eastern Cape and have created a total of 486 jobs during the construction phase.
A further three clinics valued at R200 million in the Free State are currently in the planning phases with work expected to start in the short to medium term.
The work undertaken by the CDC late last year saw the successful completion of three clinics – Maxwele, Nkanga and Nolitha – accumulatively valued at R75 million in the OR Tambo District in the Eastern Cape. A further five are expected to be completed later this year.
“The jobs created in the EC through these projects has seen a vast improvement of the lives of the communities in the areas where the clinics are constructed,” said Dr Ayanda Vilakazi, CDC’s Head of Marketing, Brand and Communications.
The first two clinics to be completed – Nkanga and Maxwele have been equipped with state of the art equipment including accommodation for staff.
“These clinics form part of the National Health Insurance (NHI) Pilot Projects and are blueprint facilities for the Ideal Clinic programme currently under development by the National Department of Health,” said Vilakazi.
